Foster With Wasatch Exotics Rescue

Wasatch Exotics Rescue is a foster-based exotic animal rescue serving Utah and the Wasatch Front. Because we do not operate a physical facility, every animal we save depends on reliable foster homes.

Fostering is a structured commitment and an essential part of our rescue operations. Please review all requirements carefully before applying.

Foster Requirements & Responsibilities

Minimum Commitment

Fosters must commit to a minimum foster period of 4–6 months.

This ensures stability for the animal and allows time for medical care, rehabilitation, and proper adoption placement. Short-term or temporary fostering is not available at this time.

Financial Responsibilities

Fosters are responsible for:

  • Providing and purchasing the animal’s food
  • Covering all transportation costs, including fuel and vehicle use

We do not reimburse for food or transportation expenses. Fosters should be prepared to cover these routine costs throughout the foster period.

Veterinary Care

Wasatch Exotics Rescue covers approved veterinary appointments and expenses through our designated veterinarian, located in Kaysville, UT.

Fosters are responsible for transporting animals to and from scheduled veterinary appointments.

Transportation Requirements (Mandatory — No Exceptions)

Reliable personal transportation is required.

Fosters must be able to transport animals:

  • To and from our approved veterinarian in Kaysville
  • To and from Sandy for supply pickup or drop-off when needed
  • To and from the Salt Lake City Fairpark for our expo events (held in early May and October)

These transportation requirements are mandatory. If you are unable to meet them, fostering may not be a good fit at this time.

How Foster Placement Works

Animals are assigned based on foster experience, availability, and species comfort level.

Fosters may have short gaps between placements depending on intake and adoption timelines. Once an animal is adopted, another placement may be offered if you remain available. Fosters may take on multiple animals at once if they would like.

Consistent communication with the rescue team is essential throughout the foster period.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • The rescue will cover essential husbandry and care supplies.
    • If a supply is needed, fosters must check with the rescue first, as we may already have the item available in our storage location in Sandy.

Become a Foster Hero

Every animal we save begins in a foster home.

Wasatch Exotics Rescue does not operate a shelter. Instead, we provide individualized, one-on-one care through dedicated foster families across Utah. This model allows exotic animals to receive proper housing, specialized husbandry, medical support, and stability while they prepare for permanent homes.

Fostering is more than temporary housing — it is the direct reason we are able to say “yes” to animals in need.

Because our animals rely entirely on the consistency and reliability of their foster homes, we maintain structured requirements and clear expectations. These guidelines protect both the animals and the volunteers who care for them.

If you are dependable, communicative, and ready to make a meaningful impact, fostering with Wasatch Exotics Rescue can be an incredibly rewarding experience.
